The Sunset Valley Parks and Open Space Plan provides a vision for the future of Parks, Conservations Areas, and Greenspaces in Sunset Valley. It sets a comprehensive plan for balancing environmental restoration and a responsible use of resources with the community's desire for additional parks amenities, such as playgrounds, community garden, and a farmers market pavilion. 

It was informed by a robust community engagement process, which included the guidance of an Ad hoc Committee, a survey, several pop-ups at community events and popular Sunset Valley locations, City Council meeting, and a community workshop. 

The resulting concept plans for each of the sixteen identified Parks, conservation Areas, and Greenspaces provide realistic and actionable ideas for improving trails, providing basic amenities, such as seating and wayfinding signage across the system, to more ambitious upgrades at key locations like the Uplands, City Hall, and the Upper Cougar Creek Greenbelt.

Asakura Robinson and the Parks and Open Space Ad hoc Committee presented the final draft of the plan to City Council on November 15, 2022. The City Council approved a Resolution adopting the Parks and Open Space plan on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. 

Current Budget

The following are budgeted items for implementation of parts of the plan in Fiscal Year 2022-2023. There are additional committed funds of $463,000.
