Sunset Valley Community Mural a collaborative event with artist Vickie McMillan-Hayes in 2023. 

As you drive along Brodie Lane in Sunset Valley, or pass through Westgate and Jones Road, you might notice something new and vibrant—art is springing to life on electrical boxes throughout the area, including one in front of the Police Department. This creative transformation is the work of Avery Houser, a talented mural artist bringing color and charm to our community.

This stunning wooden sculpture, carved with precision and passion, is the work of Della Meredith, also known as The Chainsaw Chick. Della transforms ordinary pieces of wood into extraordinary masterpieces, ranging from lifelike sculptures of figures like J.J. Watt to whimsical Minions, functional furniture, and serene beach scenes.

This beautiful sculpture exemplifies her ability to bring nature and art together in perfect harmony, adding a unique touch to the community.

Art Commission x SFC Mural by Efren Rebugio

In partnership with the Sunset Valley Arts Commission and Sustainable Food Center

This bright, whimsical mural by local artist Efren Rebugio brings a burst of color and joy to the Sunset Valley Farmers' Market space. Completed in spring 2025, the mural reflects Sunset Valley’s vibrant commitment to sustainability, community, and the beauty of the Hill Country.

Rebugio's signature style—featuring fantastical botanicals and vivid colors—is on full display. The mural incorporates elements inspired by native Texas wildflowers and seasonal produce, celebrating both the natural environment and the market’s local food mission.

Located near the SFC weekly market along Hwy 290, this collaborative piece marks the first public art installation at the market site. It serves as a lively photo spot for visitors and a welcoming gateway into the community spirit of Sunset Valley.

This vibrant mural celebrates the beauty of Sunset Valley, capturing the shifting light from day to night. With bold colors and natural imagery, it reflects the harmony of nature, community, and the ever-changing spirit of our city.

Free Flowing is a functional environmental art sculpture that provides a habitat for solitary bees while blending naturally into its surroundings. Crafted from steel and a single mesquite log, the sculpture was designed to feel organic—as though it grew directly from the landscape alongside the surrounding mesquite trees.

Different-sized holes in the wood provide nesting spaces for different species of solitary bees, while the sculpture’s steel overhang helps protect the nests from rain. Visitors may notice some holes sealed with mud, a sign that a bee has used the space to lay its eggs.

More than 20,000 known bee species exist worldwide, including approximately 4,000 species native to the United States. Many native bees are solitary and rely on small cavities in wood or the ground for nesting. As development and habitat loss reduce these natural nesting spaces, Free Flowing demonstrates how art can also support local ecosystems by creating valuable habitat for native pollinators.

Created by local artist Chris Levack who combined the iconic 10-sided star from the state seal with a hemispheric shape.
