Overview

The City of Sunset Valley holds annual elections in November for City Council. The City Council is composed of one Mayor and five Council Members. All positions are elected at large for two- year terms, with no term limits.

2026 Joint Regular and Special Election information

The City of Sunset Valley will hold a Joint Regular and Special Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

  • Regular Election: Mayor and two (2) City Council seats, each for a two-year term
  • Special Election: Reauthorization of the Crime Control and Prevention District (CCPD) and sales tax.

This election will be administered by Travis County.

Important Candidate Dates
Filing Opens: Saturday, July 18, 2026
Filing Deadline: Monday, August 17, 2026
Where to File: Sunset Valley City Hall, 3205 Jones Road
Office Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Note: Applications can be completed in advance but must be signed in person with the City Secretary or their designee.

Qualifications for Candidates:

  •  shall be at least 18 years of age upon the commencement of the term to be filled at the election;
  • shall be a citizen of the United States;
  • shall be a qualified voter of the City of Sunset Valley; 
  • shall be a resident of the State of Texas for at least twelve (12) consecutive months, as of the deadline for filing for the office;
  • shall have been a resident of the City of Sunset Valley for a period of not less than six (6) months immediately preceding the election; 
  • shall not have been deemed mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court;
  • shall meet the qualifications for eligibility as set forth in the Texas Election Code; and
  • shall not have been convicted of a felony for which he/she has not been pardoned or had his/her civil rights restored by other official action.
