• Project Location: The Sunset Valley City Hall Complex - 3205 Jones Road, Sunset Valley TX 78745. 

• Approximate Size: 

  • Sculpture sizes would be limited to ones with bottoms that can be attached to the top surface of the 24”
  • Texas limestone square block bases. The sculptures must be designed to attach mount to the bases.
  • Hardware to be supplied by sculptor and will work with our Public Works Department.
  • Prices for submitted pieces are required on application as well as up to three views of sculptures for the commission to choose from.

• Budget: 

•  For one-year contracts the stipend will be $1,500.

• The pieces must list purchase price and remain for the year contract before selling unless the committee allows the artist to substitute an acceptable piece.

• Timeline: Completion by September 21, 2026

• General Guidelines: Sculpture Materials to be made from long lasting and durable materials capable of withstanding multiple year exposure to Texas rain, wind, and weather with minimal maintenance. A family-friendly theme is needed as the display is in a foot traffic area at the city facility complex. No sharp protruding elements may be part of the design.

Artists must submit the following materials:

• Statement of Interest

  • Briefly describe the concept and inspiration for the project.

• Images of Past Work

  • Submit up to five (5) high-quality images showcasing relevant previous work.
  • Include descriptions (title, date, medium, dimensions, and project details).

• Artist Statement

  • A brief introduction outlining the artist’s background, style, and creative approach.

• Resume

  • A summary of relevant experience, exhibitions, and artistic achievements.

• Professional References

  • Provide at least three references with contact information.

• Minimum of 3 photos of sculpture being submitted for this project. .

• Additional Relevant Information

  • Any pertinent details the selection committee should consider, such as a maintenance plan, material specifications, or installation requirements.

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

• Artistic Excellence: Quality, creativity, and uniqueness of the design.

• Engagement: Potential to attract visitors and foster community pride.

• Feasibility: Adherence to budget and timeline, and ability to work with the surface constraints.

• Durability: Use of materials that withstand outdoor elements and ensure longevity.

Selection Process

1. Review of Submissions: An Art in Public Places Panel will evaluate submissions based on the criteria.

2. Interviews (if applicable): Shortlisted artists may be invited for an interview to discuss proposals.

3. Award of Contract: The selected artist will enter a contract outlining responsibilities, scope, timeline, and budget.

4. Public Dedication: The completed project will be celebrated with a public event.
